So what is astral projection anyways?

Astral projection is when your soul leaves your body.

Yep. Your consciousness leaves your body. Believe it or not, it does this every night.

So why on earth am would you want to do this anyways? For me, it’s a cheap and mostly stress-free way to travel. And you aren’t bound by physics. You can fly to the top of Mount Everest or dive to the bottom of the ocean. You can go see what’s actually in Area 51 or visit the pyramids without obtaining visas or other paperwork. You can go anywhere in the universe, no spaceship required!

So why aren’t we all doing it all the time? Well, it’s a rather advanced practice to do so while your mind is awake. If you’re brand new to the concept, spiritually advanced, or a well developed meditator you might have great success without any challenges.. and I’m glad you can!

If it doesn’t come easily or quickly to you, there are quite a few different techniques to make the process easier.

First, you may want to consider your setup. Sensory deprivation is really helpful for keeping you focused on your astral body. This eye mask will allow you to keep your eyes open while blocking out all light. These noise cancelling headphones will both block out external noise and be really helpful for listening to meditations.

Before we get into the techniques, you’ll want to start by meditating. To be able to astral project, you’re aiming to get you brain waves into a theta state. It’s ok if you have no idea what that means. I’ll write more about that some other time, but essentially it’s a very relaxed state of mind similar to when you just wake up in the morning or are about to fall asleep at night. To assist with reach a theta state if this is new for you, I recommend listening to binaural beats – there are tons of videos available on YouTube. Binaural beats are when 2 different frequencies or tones are streamed into each ear. If one is providing 440hz and the other is streaming 444hz, the difference between these two frequencies causes your brain to bring attention to your astral body.

Another method for reaching theta state, is the “wake back to bed” method. By doing wake back to bed, you set an alarm to wake you up about 5-6 hours into your regular sleep cycle (or about 2 hours before you would normally wake up). You stay awake for 10-30 minutes then go back to bed. While staying very still in bed, there’s a window of opportunity to allow your body to fall asleep naturally, but your mind to stay awake. Once you’ve reach a theta brainwave state, you can try using the following techniques to leave your body:

Technique #1 – climbing the rope

Look up with your mind’s eye (or imagination if you’re not used to working with your third eye) and see a rope hanging down from the ceiling over you. Reach up with your arm and grab the rope without actually moving your body. Keep climbing the rope until you’ve exited fully and can turn around and look at your body.

Technique #2 – rolling out of your body

Once you start to feel the vibrations of your astral body separate from your physical body, start to roll your astral body to the side – as if you’re rolling out of bed. Keep rolling until your astral body hits the floor. Or wall. Or basement (you might float through the floor!)

Technique #3 – bouncing out of your body

This particular technique is the closest I’ve come to exiting my body. As you notice your soul, start to see it jumping up and down or skipping along the street. Keep it bouncing and do your best to make those motions as big as possible. Once it feels like you’re really floating at the top, on your next bounce push as hard as you can out of the bottom and shoot out of your head and through your wall!

The best part of all of this is that there isn’t an airplane ride required to get home. You just decide you’re ready to go back to your body and you are there. There’s no risk in getting lost in the astral.

So where are you going?
