What to Expect at Your First Conscious Life Expo or Spiritual Gathering

The Conscious Life Expo is an event like no other—and wow, was I unprepared. Running for more than 20 years, this expo is a well-organized and expertly executed weekend that completely takes over the LAX Hilton. Every public space is filled with attendees, and the energy is palpable. If there’s a spiritual gathering that sets the gold standard, this is it.

Upon arrival and check-in, you receive a literal book packed with speaker bios and event schedules. Each day’s agenda spans two full pages. At any given moment, 8–10 presentations are happening simultaneously, hundreds of booths are open across three different floors, and a stage in the lobby hosts live performances from artists and musicians. Advertisements showcasing booths, services, and goods for sale are everywhere, adding to the immersive experience.

I did my homework ahead of time and picked out several speakers I wanted to see, but I made a crucial mistake: not buying tickets in advance. The most popular events (ahem Bashar) sold out before the expo even began. If there’s someone you’re eager to see, I highly recommend purchasing tickets well in advance—especially for paid-entry events not included in the VIP pass. Plus, you’ll save money by buying early.

Be Physically Prepared

Before diving into the event itself, take care of yourself physically. Hydration is key—there’s so much energy circulating at this event that you’ll need water to stay grounded and keep your system clear. (This is my favorite water bottle right now.) Also, bring snacks. The snack bar line can get ridiculously long, especially between sessions, so having something on hand will save you time.

Footwear? Surprisingly, I didn’t find myself on my feet as much as expected, but comfort is always a good idea. And when it comes to clothing—wear whatever makes you feel good. People are unapologetically themselves here, expressing themselves in every way imaginable. That authenticity creates an incredibly inclusive and accepting environment. I was happy to have a place to finally wear my elephant skirt.

The Energy is Intense

Attending presentations was an experience unlike any other. I cannot stress enough how unprepared I was for the sheer amount of energy that moved through me over the weekend. I meditated—a lot—but doing so in such a massive group setting amplifies everything in a whole new way. If you’re open to it, the energy will move through you, and it can be overwhelming.

Spiritual growth can also be exhausting. My ambitious plan to attend six or seven presentations per day quickly turned into three or four. By Sunday night, I was wiped out—and even got sick. Talking to seasoned attendees, I learned this is pretty common. I’d suggest bringing vitamin C and elderberry to support your immune system. I also wore protective crystals all weekend—Obsidian is my go-to, but many people swear by Black Tourmaline. Tiger’s Eye and Malachite are also great choices. If you can, I’d also set aside time after the expo to allow yourself to recover and integrate the energy from the weekend.

Discerning Energy and Intentions

One of my biggest takeaways from the weekend was the importance of discerning what energies and experiences resonate with me. There were people selling things that, in my opinion, felt like grifts. That doesn’t necessarily mean they were—it just meant they weren’t for me. The same went for certain channeled messages. If something didn’t align, I simply tuned it out. You can do the same—either by leaving the room or mentally blocking it out. No big secret there.

My Favorite Part?

Okay, two favorite parts. First, meeting so many of you—along with some of the people I’ve followed and admired for years. But the other? Aliens. Yes, aliens.

I casually mentioned to a friend that I felt like I was walking past non-human beings. She responded immediately, “Of course they’re here! If you pay close attention, you can start picking them out.” So I did—and I’m fairly certain I spotted more than a few. It’s common belief that non-humans attend events like this, and honestly? It makes total sense.

The Conscious Life Expo was an unforgettable experience—one that I’ll be better prepared for next time. If you’re thinking about going, plan ahead, stay hydrated, be open to the energy shifts, and, most importantly, enjoy the journey. Who knows? You might just spot an alien too.

  4. […] What an incredible weekend. If you ever get the chance to go to a conference or expo of any sort in the spiritual event, I of course highly recommend going. Contact Modalities XPO is an excellent choice and they ran a fantastic program. Mel and her whole team did a great job. If it’s your first one, check out what to expect here. […]
